Malaysia plans to equip at least 50% of its 34 expressways with Smart Highway technology to enhance road safety, improve traffic flow, and boost transport efficiency. The initiative will incorporate AI, smart CCTV systems, early-warning systems, solar-powered lighting, and electric vehicle charging infrastructure. A National Intelligent Traffic Management Centre is also being developed to strengthen real-time monitoring and traffic management coordination. The government is working with highway concessionaires to refine a business model under the Malaysian Highway Authority's oversight.
